Happy Pushkin Hotel

A charming small hotel in St. Petersburg's historic centre, the Happy Pushkin owes its somewhat peculiar name to the fact it is housed in an early-19th century apartment building where Russia's greatest poet, Alexander Pushkin, spent the first year of his marriage - presumably one of the happier periods of his turbulent life. It was here that Pushkin began the composition of his epic poem The Bronze Horseman, inspired by the famous equestrian monument to Peter the Great nearby.

Featuring attractively decorated and very spacious guest rooms named after important figures in Pushkin's life, the Happy Pushkin Hotel offers accommodation rich in historic details, while providing a good level of contemporary comfort and convenience, including complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout. Aimed mainly at tourists, the hotel has little in the way of extra amenities or facilities, but offers an extensive range of concierge services. There is no restaurant at the hotel, but breakfast is served in-room.

This makes it one of the best places to soak up St. Petersburg's historic atmosphere, although the downside is the lack of a metro station in the immediate vicinity. Nonetheless, for visitors most interested in St. Petersburg's rich history and culture, the Happy Pushkin Hotel is definitely worth exploring.
