Local Sightseeing

The Happy Pushkin Hotel is surrounded by historic buildings from St. Petersburg's imperial past. On the English Embankment, which is behind the hotel, there are numerous former residences of Russia's high aristocracy and royal family, including the beautiful Art Nouveau Palace of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich and the magnificent Rumyantsev Mansion, which houses part of the collections of the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg.

Just south of the hotel, New Holland is an island between the Moyka River and the Kryukov Canal that has been home to shipyards since the early 18th century, and is now being transformed into a cultural and entertainment centre. Less than five minutes' walk past New Holland brings guests to Teatralnaya Ploshchad and the Mariinsky Theatre, one of the world's greatest musical theatres and one of St. Petersburg most popular visitor attractions. Walking east from the hotel, guests will soon come to Ploshchad Truda and the imperious Nikolaevsky Palace, built for the third son of Nicholas I, Grand Duke Nikolay Nikolaevich. Continue along Galernaya Ulitsa to reach Senatskaya Ploshchad, home to the Bronze Horseman and Carlo Rossi's Senate and Synod building.
