The summer palaces of Russia's royal family and lots more can be found in the suburbs of St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg's suburbs provide the perfect day trip opportunity to escape the crowds and noise of the big city for the fresh air, green parks and romantic palaces of the countryside. Within a one or two hour train, car, bus or hydrofoil trip from St. Petersburg, lie several lovely parks with beautiful and romantic palaces, which were the resting places of several Tsars -the perfect day trip from the city.  Petergof (Petrodvorets) - Visit Peter the Great's favorite villa Monplaisir facing the Finish Gulf, stroll along the spectacular Grand Cascade & Water Avenue with its unequalled collection of magnificent fountains and canals, and wander the many lavish halls and galleries of the Grand Palace.

 Pavlovsk - Wander through the wonderful park, stroll along the Tremble Lime Alley, delight in the romantic Old Woods where a bronze Apollo and twelve muses majestically stand, visit the Charles Cameron-designed former royal residence Great Palace.

 Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) - Meander through the wild and overgrown Alexander Park and taste the waters of a popular natural spring behind the old Arsenal building, stroll through the more prim Catherine Park and rent your own boat and traverse the Great Pond

 Lomonosov - Visit Catherine the Great's sumptuous pleasure grounds at Oranieumbaum, be amazed at the extravagance of the Chinese Palace, commune with nature along its several km of narrow and quiet and mystical pine forests

 Gatchina - Visit the favorite of Catherine the Great's, Grigory Orlov's, early classical styled former residence, stroll through the wonderful park and marvel at its lakes complete with an island of love.

 Vyborg - Wander around one of the oldest cities in Europe; visit the famous Vyborg Castle, which is built on a rock in the bay and stroll about the historic parks and pavilions of grandiose Monrepo Estate.
