St. Petersburg is a city built across a series of islands (42 in total), and this tour of the northern banks of the Neva River introduces you to some of the most interesting. While Vasilyevsky Island and the Petrograd Side are integral parts of the historic centre and home to some of the city's most famous sites, the Kirov Islands further north (Kamenny, Krestovsky and Yelagin) have for centuries been park lands and pleasure grounds where Petersburgers have gone to relax away from the bustle of the city.
