Der Spieler

This pleasant local bar on a side street close to Sennaya Ploshchad is based on a historic drinking den in the same spot that was once frequented by Ivan Turgenev and Fyodor Dostoevsky. The owners even claim that an antique automatic organ they own was brought by the latter back from one of his regular trips to the gambling resorts of Germany.

Der Spieler bar

Despite its grand historic claims, it is actually a very relaxed and unpretentious bar-restaurant serving a reasonable selection of local brewed and imported beers, and a menu of inexpensive Russian and German fare, including one of the best value rib-eye steaks in St. Petersburg. As the name of the bar suggests, the bar also has a number of traditional board games that patrons are encouraged to borrow and play.
