The Guardhouse

An elegant neoclassical mansion built 1748-1749, with a second storey added at the beginning of the 20th century, the Guardhouse (or Senior Officers' Guardhouse) was the headquarters of the fortress guard, and also used to hold arrested officers. Today, the building, in front of the Nevsky Curtain Wall, houses the management offices of the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg.
