The most picturesque route is to follow the Griboedov Canal up to Nevsky Prospekt and then head right down Nevsky until you reach the archway of the General Staff Building, which leads through to Palace Square and the Winter Palace. To save time, turn right out of the hotel and first right onto Voznesenskiy Prospekt. From the first bus stop, board a northbound No. 10 bus and travel four stops to Dvortsovaya Naberezhnaya, right opposite the main visitor entrance to the Hermitage.

How do I get from the hotel to the Mariinsky Theatre?

The Mariinsky Theatre is about 20 minutes' walk from the Ambassador Hotel. Turn right out of the hotel down Prospekt Rimskogo-Korsakova and follow the street until you come to the Griboedov Canal. Cross the canal and turn right up the embankment. Walk about 50m and take the first left onto Teatralnaya Ploshchad. The Mariinsky is at the far end of the square.
