Opened in 2004 next to Tandoor, St. Petersburg's oldest Indian restaurant, and opposite St. Isaac's Cathedral, Tandoori Nights is an attractively designed modern eatery offering what the owners describe as "London Indian cuisine", although it's several notches above what's served at the average English curry house.

Unlike its neighbour, Tandoori Nights pays no mind to the suspicion, widely held in Russia, that chili is a health risk. The pork vindaloo is a cathartic experience, and any dish with their "two-pepper" rating is guaranteed authentically spicy. This can be the only reason why this small restaurant is only ever packed when tour groups visit, although there are plenty of equally delicious and more mildly spiced dishes on offer, too. Portions are not large and prices are reasonably high, but the menu is beautifully balanced and expertly cooked throughout.
