Sennoy Bridge

Sennoy Bridge over the Griboedov Canal in St Petersburg, Russia
Sennoy Bridge over the Griboedov Canal

This small hump-backed bridge is much used by pedestrians going to and from bustling Sennaya Ploschad, and offers fine views in both directions from its position on a tight curve of the Griboedov Canal. A simple steel structure with pretty cast-iron railings, the bridge was built in 1952 and, like its wooden predecessor of 1931, its chief function is to carry heating pipes across the canal. Next to the bridge, the rows of marshrutka minibuses provide a convenient means of getting from the metro to the Mariinsky Theatre.
