Nearest metro: Gostiny Dvor, Nevsky prospekt
The Stony Island Hotel on Lomonosova on Lomonosova has a superb central location just a few minutes' walk from Nevsky Prospekt and with easy access on foot to nearly all of St. Petersburg's top downtown visitor attractions, including the Hermitage and St. Isaac's Cathedral. Lomonosova Ulitsa itself is an interesting mixture of historic buildings, student bars and cafes, and upmarket shopping.
The nearest metro stations, Nevsky Prospekt and Gostiny Dvor, are both less than five minutes' walk from the hotel on Nevsky Prospekt, and there are also numerous bus and trolleybus services running along Nevsky Prospekt, providing fast access to almost every corner of the city.
Moskovsky Railway Station is roughly 2km from the Stony Island Hotel on Lomonosova down Nevsky Prospekt. To travel to/from the hotel by taxi will take 10-20 minutes. It is also very easy to reach the hotel by metro from Mayakovskaya Station (connected to the mainline station) one stop to Gostiny Dvor, under five minutes from the Stony Island Hotel on Lomonosova. Vitebsky Station, which services trains from Belarus, Ukraine, and the Baltic States, is about 2.5km away, and can be reached by taxi in around 20 minutes. Ladozhsky Station, where trains depart for and arrive from Finland and Northern Russia, is on the eastern outskirts of St. Petersburg, and the drive to/from the hotel takes upwards of 30 minutes.
Pulkovo-2 International Airport is roughly 15km south of the Stony Island Hotel on Lomonosova on Lomonosova. Taxis to/from the airport take 30-70 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. It is also simple to travel from the airport by public transport, taking a bus or minibus to Moskovskaya Metro Station and travelling north from there on the blue line to Nevsky Prospekt Station, under five minutes' walk from the Stony Island. Pulkovo-1, the domestic terminal, is a couple of kilometers or ten minutes' drive further out of St. Petersburg, with similar but less frequent bus services. |

The Stony Island Hotel on Lomonosova on Lomonosova is in the very heart of downtown St. Petersburg, and within comfortable walking distance of nearly all the city's major visitor attractions, including the State Hermitage Museum (15 minutes), the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood (ten minutes), and St. Isaac's Cathedral (15 minutes).
Directly opposite the hotel on Lomonosova Ulitsa, Gostiny Dvor is St. Petersburg's oldest and largest department store, dating back to 1757. Based on designs by renowned architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the elegant neoclassical building covers more than 53,000 square meters and now houses rows of upmarket boutiques and souvenir stores.
At its western end, Lomonosova Street comes out onto the Griboedov Canal, a few meters from the Bank Bridge to the left and Kazan Cathedral to the right. The former is one of St. Petersburg's most picturesque bridges, famous for its magnificent gilded griffon statues. The latter is one of the city's most striking landmarks, with a towering central cuppola and sweeping crescent colonnades based on the Basilica of St. Peters in Rome.
At the opposite end of Ulitsa Lomonosova, next to the Fontanka River, is Ploshchad Lomonosova, a beautiful circus of that forms part of an ensemble of buildings by Carlo Rossi, St. Petersburg's most feted neoclassical architect. To the left of the square the ensemble continues along the perfectly symmetrical Ulitsa Zodchego Rossi up to Ploshchad Ostrovskogo, the site of the magnificent Alexandrisnky Theatre, the leading stage for classical drama in St. Petersburg (and arguably in Russia). |
