The Prestige Mini-Hotel on Vasilevsky is located in a tranquil corner of Vasilevsky Island, just a few steps from the embankments of the Bolshaya Nevka River, and within walking distance of several major visitor attractions including the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Kunstkammer, and the Spit of Vasilevsky Island. The historic part of Vasilevsky Island is one of the most fascinating districts of central St. Petersburg, with many of the city's oldest buildings, as well as the vibrant student culture that thrives around the world-renowned St. Petersburg State University.
The nearest metro station, Vasileostrovskaya, is about 500m from the Prestige Mini-Hotel. From there it is only one stop to Gostiny Dvor (for the Hermitage, the State Russian Museum, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood, and Nevsky Prospekt) and two stops to Mayakovskaya (for Moskovsky Station).
By taxi, Moskovsky Station and Vitebsky Station are around 20 minutes' drive from the Prestige Mini-Hotel. The drive to Ladozhsky Station takes around 40 minutes. Pulkovo-2 International Airport is around 19km from the Prestige, and the drive will take 40-90 minutes depending on traffic conditions. For Pulkovo-1, the domestic terminal, add another ten minutes to journey times. |

When he was planning his new city, Peter the Great envisioned Vasilevsky Island as the center, and ordered several major building projects on the eastern end of the island, all of which are within 15 minutes' walk of the Prestige Mini-Hotel.
Among them are the magnificent baroque Menshikov Palace, the home of his closest adviser, Grand Prince Dmitry Menshikov, which served as the de facto court for most of his reign; Trezzini's Twelve Colleges, which was originally built to house the ministries of Peter's reformed government and is now the main campus of St. Petersburg State University; and the Kunstkammer, the anthropological museum that grew from Peter's bizarre and occasionally macabre collection of scientific curios. Other major sights around the Spit (Strelka) of Vasilevsky Island include the Central Naval Museum in the grand Old Stock Exchange building, the Literary Museum, and the Rostral Columns.
Just a few steps from the Prestige Mini-Hotel, the Church of Catherine the Martyr is one of the finest neoclassical churches in St. Petersburg, and is slowly being restored to its former glories, which include the famous silver angel that crowns its central dome.
From the Prestige it is also very simple to cross Tuchkov Bridge (five minutes' walk) on to the Petrograd Side. Right next to the bridge are the Petrovskiy Stadium, home ground of Zenit FC, and the Yubileyniy Palace of Sport, an ice-hockey stadium that is often used to host major rock concerts. In stark, just across the road is one of the oldest churches in the city, the yellow-and-white Prince Vladimir Cathedral, consecrated in 1789.
A further ten minutes' walk brings you to the Peter and Paul Fortress, the oldest structure in St. Petersburg, and home to numerous interesting museums and the Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral, with its instantly recognizable golden spire. Around the fortress are the Leningrad Zoo, and the Museum of Artillery. |
