Probably the single biggest selling point of the Nevsky 78 Apart-Hotel is its location. On the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Liteiny Prospekt, the city's two largest central thoroughfares, the Nevsky 78 is within walking distance of nearly all St. Petersburg's major visitor attractions, including the Hermitage and the State Russian Museum.
The hotel also has excellent transport links, situated under ten minutes' drive from Moskovskiy and Vitebskiy Stations (Ladozhskiy Station, which serves trains to Finland and northern Russia, is 20-30 minutes by car) and only five minutes' walk from Vladimirskaya and Dostoevskaya Metro Stations. Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2 airports are around 17km from the hotel, and the drive takes from 40-60 minutes depending on traffic.
Nevsky 78 Apart-Hotel does not have a front desk, which means that room keys and all additional services can only be obtained by prior arrangement. The hotel is on the fifth (fourth) floor of a regular apartment building, and is accessed via the public staircase (there is no lift). For these reasons, the Nevsky 78 Apart-Hotel may not be the best choice for elderly travellers and Russia novices. For the more independent or adventurous, however, these are only minor inconveniences. |

From its location on Nevsky Prospekt, guests at the Nevsky 78 Apart-Hotel will find it easy to explore the historic center of St. Petersburg. The Winter Palace, Kazan Cathedral, the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood, and the State Russian Museum are all within twenty minutes' walk - or a bus ride a couple of stops - along Nevsky Prospekt.
In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, the biggest attraction is the Fontanka River, with its palace-lined embankments and numerous historic bridges, the most notable of which are Anchikov Bridge, with its famous equestrian statues, and Lomonosov Bridge, one of the first stone drawbridges in St. Petersburg. Next to Anchikov Bridge, the deep pink Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace is one of the most beautiful in the city, built in the late 19th century but to a design that revived the heyday of late baroque.
Further down Nevsky Prospekt, the Aleksandrinsky Theater, Saint Petersburg's most famous drama theater, has been working since the mid-eighteenth century. The theater's fine building was designed by famous local architect Carlo Rossi, and witnessed the premieres of Gogol's Government Inspector, and Chekhov's The Seagull. An impressive monument to Catherine the Great stands in the middle of the square opposite the theater.
Not far from the Aleksandrinsky Theater, the Gostiny Dvor shopping arcade was built in the eighteenth century as the central trading post of St. Petersburg. It now contains some of the smartest outlets in the city, as well as a number of cafes and souvenir boutiques dotted around its vast interior. |
