| It's getting just as hard to find budget hotel accommodation in St. Petersburg as it has been for several years in Moscow. Basically, there isn't any, and yet somehow we've managed to find a reasonable selection of very reasonably price hotel accommodation, none of which will make you feel that you're back - way back - in the USSR. |

 | The Oktiabrskaya is a really good standard hotel, with a great central location opposite Moskovskiy Vokzal. It's generally not that cheap, but the rooms in the Ligovskiy Building - which is only 100m from the main hotel - are very competitively priced. It's particularly worth paying attention to the suites and the triple rooms here. If you're travelling with friends, this is a much better option than staying in a hostel and, surprisingly, no more expensive. » |

From its strangely fascinating Soviet-modernist facade to the extraordinary furnishings of the public spaces and the remaining unrenovated suites, the Russ Hotel could be a design lesson. Nonetheless, it has a fantastic central location and very cheap unrenovated rooms, which probably make it St. Petersburg's best budget hotel. Just don't expect much in the way of service. » |

 | This modern mini-hotel was opened in Summer 2008 by the Nevsky Hotels Group, and aims to provide some of the cheapest accommodation available in central St. Petersburg. With a superb location only two minutes' walk from the Hermitage and Nevsky Prospekt, the Sky Hotel has small but comfortable and attractively designed rooms, the cheapest of which share bathrooms, and offers a reasonable range of services and amenities, including complimentary WiFi. » |
